What is "CWABS, Inc, Asset-backed Certificates"?

Hi BP! I'm looking at a listing on the MLS that is "owned" by "CWABS, Inc, Asset-backed Certificates". I am guessing this is a foreclosure and this entity bought the note? Anyone have experience? Is it a corporation that buys foreclosures, or a government program maybe? Can you find out what the loan balance was in order to give a little intel on making an offer?
