Any other firefighters and first responders out there in real estate investment? I work for Los Angeles County Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic in the West Hollywood area. Currently invested in over 700 units of multifamily and always looking to connect with fellow first responders.
I’m a former first responder, 14 years in various roles. Some as a police officer, some as a 911 dispatcher, some as a firefighter/EMT (FF-I, FF-II, then driver-operator on engine company and truck). Even did a part-time stint with AMR on a BLS ambulance (I guess I get bored easily, LOL). Fun times!
Then I decided to turn my side-gig of real estate investing into my full-time focus. That was almost 20 years ago and while I really loved my former vocation, I’ve never looked back. Since that time I’ve raised way over $100 million from investors and bought over a half a billion dollars of real estate. Man, it seems like two completely different lives.
The difference is I worked for a small city (less than 50K people) and you work for a REAL fire department—I grew up watching squad 51 and engine 51 on my tiny four-channel color TV, LOL. You see more trauma in a 24 hour shift than I saw in a year.
I work for contra costa county fire. I’m also an investor. I only have 4 units, not 700. Definitely looking to build some relationships and build up my portfolio out here in the bay/Sacramento area.
Wow! Hi, Hud! So, I literally just signed up on biggerpockets (a few minutes ago) and this is the first post I see! I am a full-time Flight Nurse/Paramedic on a helicopter in Texas (in EMS for 32 years now) who also started a Home Staging & Redesign business a few years ago (FlyGirl Home Staging & Redesign). I am just starting to explore the idea of Real Estate Investing because I love Real Estate (and would like to make some retirement income!). I am currently reading "How to Invest in Real Estate," which is how I found out about this site. I am so looking forward to learning all I can and appreciate this site. Thank you to all our past and present military folks and first responders!
Police officer in DC. I'd love to invest in a multifamily, but at this point I'm just looking for good deals. I love this thread and am excited at the thought of being able to connect with other first responders!!
@Hud Floyd Hello, I’m a police officer with over 8 years of experience with the Newport News police department here in Virginia. I own 10 properties at the moment and flip 3-4 houses per year. I also wholesale as the time enables me. I love both of my jobs, but at some point I’m going to have to pick and choose which career to focus on more. It’s getting tough handing it all. Anyways, I’m glad to see so many first responders investing in RE. Stay safe everyone!
@Hud Floyd hey sir! I’ve been with LAPD for 8 years and am in escrow for my first multi family investment property! I would love to connect with you for some guidance and encouragement!!
Hi everyone! 16+ years as a police officer in Delaware (13 as a public safety scuba diver) with 4 years as a licensed realtor under my belt. Recently locked in my first lease for a rental I purchased in late 2019. Im really looking forward to gaining momentum from here and hope to find some great deals in multi-family this year.
Hey Matt. We have a good showing from Washington. Hopefully you all can connect. No I won't be moving into helo ops. I like where I'm at currently and am keeping a large part of my focus on the MF investing.
Hello Hud, I am a Lieutenant with West Metro Fire in the Denver metro area. We border Denver Fire to the west between downtown and Golden. Been working here for 17 years and had a duplex that I sold and invested in a group to buy 5 mobile home parks in Illinois.
I am currently looking for multi family outside the state due to the crazy market here in Denver.
I grew up in San Diego, went to USC back in the 90’s and lived in the South Bay for 8 years. Would love to chat with you and see if there’s a fit to work something out!
I tested with LA County back in the day, ended up number 1190 but never got to the background check! Oh well.
Hi Marix. Haven't made it to your neck of the woods yet but was talking with my wife last night about wanting to visit Memphis and Nashville. Definitely have interest in those markets as well.
Hi Lisa. You have been with it a long time, 32 years, kudos! You're in a great area for real estate. I was just in Dallas last weekend for an investor conference. Look forward to connecting.
Hi Huso. You are a busy man! It does get to be a lot managing both jobs but we make it work. I would say we all know the benefits it can and does bring us.
Hello, Hud. I’ve been a volunteer firefighter/EMT for Oak Hill Fire outside of Austin, TX for almost 19 years. Most of my time is now spent as an instructor with our fire academy and I was recently appointed an ESD Commissioner.
My full time job is in the construction industry, building high-end custom residential with our family business. I've been learning about REI for over a year and am ready to get involved. We're looking at our first deal, which would be a SFH flip here in Austin. Hopefully close in the next few weeks!
Congrats on your success with multi family and thanks for starting this thread! Really great to see all the first responders out there on BP.
