"Mistakes", in the true sense of the word, are rare in real estate, since there are few "facts" - for example, it is probably a fact that X owns a property, and it is probably a fact that X is the agreed-upon sales price. Beyond that, it is just different degrees of advantageous or disadvantageous situations acted upon with or without knowledge, meaning that the word "mistake" is a judgement call. Using Linda D.

Now if you read what I wrote above, for those that commented about what I wrote, I NEVER said you don't make mistakes.  We all do.  All I said was they are a result of not being prepared.

Mistakes are never good.  To say they are a learning experience may be true, but to say that as a rationalization as if to say that makes it OK, is not.  Mistakes are never OK...but they happen...to all of us.

I never look at my mistakes and say it was OK because I got smarter...I didn't...I just lost money.  It is important to learn what NOT to do, as much as it is important to learn what TO do, but again, that doesn't make it OK.

If it was OK, I want to meet the person that lost the most money in REI.  Imagine what I could learn from them.

I didn't mean most expensive, I meant that when you make a mistake, you learn from it-- when you feel really bad about it-- you have a stronger sense that it was wrong, and because of that you definitely won't make it again.      If it's a financial decision, it should be heavily analyzed and the room for mistakes should be minuscule.

Personally, the mistake I was thinking of, was that I picked the wrong paint color in one of our units, I felt bad because it's not what I wanted-- should have took more time!    That, or the fact we didn't buy a house down the street, it ended up going cheap and we could have been the ones to profit!    That was a business mistake, I should have taken the risk!
