Truebooks CPA - Feedback
Hi all,
You must listen to podcast #689, The #1 Real Estate Tax Loophole, with Matt Bontrager. I was impressed with the information shared by Matt. It was easy to understand and to the point. I Googled Truebooks reviews, but there is not much information about Truebooks CPAs. I also searched the forums and found one post with seven replies mentioning Truebooks.
Is anyone here at BiggerPockets using Truebooks services like Tax Advisor?
Thank you,
Ricardo

Hello @Matt Bontrager I currently have a tax file open with your company. I provided all info by the deadline I was given. I was then informed that my file was in queue to be assigned to a tax preparer on March 12th. After inquiring several times if a tax preparer has been assigned, on April 12th I was notified someone was assigned.
I was then told an extension will be filed.
I asked the tax preparer several times after he was assigned for a status update. Each time the response was "Unfortunately I cannot provide an exact estimate at this time for the date of completion". That message was on May 23rd, it is now nearly 2 months later (July 19th) and I still have heard nothing. If someone has been assigned, why would it take more than 2 months for them to complete the return? I have a pretty straight forward return with a W-2 and a K-1 from an LLC.
I will assume positive intent here that this is not the experience you intend for your customers. My experience so far has made me regret my decision for TrueBooks to file my return. This year will be the most I have paid for my taxes to be prepared, and the only year where I will be filing with an extension (and added stress).
To be fair and objective with my feedback, the upfront consultation process went well. Everyone I spoke with was knowledgeable and pleasant. The communication was prompt. However, once my deposit was paid and I submitted my files, that’s where the experience degraded.
Based on my experience, I would caution others to receive services from TrueBooks.
My question is: When will my taxes be filed? May you please look into this for me? Thanks!
I am also in a need of Tax Advisor and I can't find any genuine reviews on Truebooks CPA. Hopefully we get an answer here :)
I can't find anyth on it. Its kind of weird. I went to the site and submitted some info and it says "check your email for further steps." It's been over 24 hours and no email in my primary inbox or spam folder
I had a complimentary call with one of their consultants last week and it was reassuring. But I am still shopping before making up my mind. I was wondering if anyone here actually work/ed with them.

I’m in the same boat. Used them for 2021 taxes, signed to use them again at the end of 2022. During 2022 I had multiple meetings with one of their CPA advisors and gave them access to QuickBooks and Payroll platforms. Completed the information multiple times and then they asked me to send copies of Accounting reports despite having access. They filed an extension and here it is nearly September of the next year and I’m still not filed for 2022.
My experience is that you pretty much always have to file an extension with them as your CPA and the communication is pretty terrible.
Just trying to get some fairly simple taxes filed for myself and my business that I met with them about throughout 2022. Then, 2023 I’ve had zero meetings or communications about business and what to do.
The service went downhill. Fast!
That’s super frustrating Kyle! I hope you get things wrapped up soon. I did hear back from TrueBooks and they had my return ready for me to review, but there was a tax credit missing, so we’re back to waiting for them to make corrections 😫
Hi Tylee!
I'm sorry I'm just getting to this. And I'm very sorry that you've had a bad experience. I appreciate your honesty during your upfront process.
I'm gathering notes on the backend and reaching out via email to ensure we make this right the best we can.
Talk to you soon.
Hi Ryan,

Matt, Still haven’t gotten mine done and the business extension only goes still Sept 15th if I’ve been informed correctly. Crazy that we’re over 9 months into the year and I haven’t gotten these files when your team has access to QuickBooks, Gusto (my payroll platform), and I met with an advisor on my tax plan all last year.
Looks like you’re just covering your bases with generic responses to us though.
Good luck with keeping any paying customers you have left. I truly hope you give them better service and do wish you well.
Hi Kyle,
I'm trying to reach out as it's the right thing to do and I didn't see these until today. I also sent you an email to discuss.
Sorry! New to this platform and my response posted in the wrong spot. Kyle, do you mind sharing your new cpa info.
Thanks!

Thank you everyone for your feedback. I was going to checkout Truebooks and will not because of only negative feedback from you.
You saved me from one poor decision.
I’m sorry to hear. We’d love the chance to help if you ever decide to try.
No sir, just you unfortunately. Luckily they’re being truthful. You know what was given to you, be thruthful about it like you were on our phone call.
Luckily for people like you, you can post whatever you want on the internet. We both know you’re lying about what was given to you. Multiple calls, deliverables, and you chose to do nothing, telling me “I forgot”, and now it’s all us, lol.
Cheers Kyle, happy investing and tax saving!
I was really excited to use Truebooks when we first hear of them. They sounded very promising and seem like they was right for the job, so we hired them to do our 2022 tax and to help do our tax planning for 2023. Soon after the start of the new year of 2022 and when tax season started getting busy, their quality of communication and response time start to degraded extremely bad. Also I was very disappointing that even thought we provided our tax information to our CPA a month before the tax deadline we still had file an extension for our tax. We worked so hard to provide that all the information the CPA need and wanted and at the end it was wasted of our time and effort. On top of the extension, we had to continuously ask over and over, and over for updates. It was extremely painful. Worst part, we missed many opportunity during this time.
I paid thousand of dollars to do tax planning and I got two meeting so far with not tax planning, just chatting. I would not recommend them.
I have to lead with saying I’m sorry. This tax season was brutal. We could have done a better job here to provide a quicker turnaround. To help avoid this we’re planning on giving clients the option going forward to let us know if they’d like to be filed early and we will adjust document deadlines accordingly. I’m trying as hard as I can to make it right for anyone that had a poor experience.
Regarding advisory work, I see your tax planning documents and will follow up separately to see how things are being implemented. I see 3x and 4x tax savings on fees for the next 2 years and beyond.
You’re still set to meet with us for more planning so I’ll be sure to discuss this with your advisor to ensure we nail down what is needed.
I’ve emailed you to help.
Whew! I'm so glad I came across this thread. Thank you all for sharing your experiences!
