Real estate renewing lease charge

Ayman Hadi
Posted

Hi..

If the real estate company renews the lease for the same old tenant with the same rent, what price should the real estate charge the landlord for printing and signing the new contract? ( he was charging me one month's rent on the first year contract ) is 100$ - 150 will be enough?

Quote from @Ayman Hadi:

If I understand correctly, you are managing the rental and you've just hired the real estate agent to print/sign the lease renewal. Is that correct? If so, why? You are allowed to sign your own contracts as the owner of the property. All you need is a hand-written addendum (or write it at the bottom of your existing lease) that says:

"Landlord and Tenant agree to extend this lease for an additional 12 months with a new termination date of ________. All other terms remain the same."

You both sign, and you're done.

I would advise you to increase the rent at least 3% per year to keep up with cost of living increases. If you don't and the market really jumps, you could be missing out on thousands of dollars every year and soon find yourself so far behind that ou can't catch up.
