great event.. Bruce Norris was worth the cost of admission.  some take aways from his presentation.

1. No major melt down in the near future.

2. mortgage market much stronger for obvious reasons  ( no liar loans real world underwriting)

3. markets would need 40% of the inventory on MLS to be foreclsoures to cause a major correction ( this is not happening).

4. He feels cap rates and multi family is the one segment that is frothy and could correct.

5. in a subtle way he was saying when profits avail themselves it can be good to take it off the table.

Whats he doing now... his normal short term lending and he is now building some new construction.. as that is exactly what I do.. I felt like I was personally on the right track as well.. Great presentation.

    @Glen Fagin I flew up from San Diego last year for the whole thing... it was a fun time.  The best part was meeting people that I've interacted with on BP and getting some quality time to hang out, share stories, and make connections.  So many people are into different things - it was great to get exposure to business models I hadn't thought about before.  I particularly enjoyed the casual conversations with @John Fedro and @Bill Exeter (and Hiba) and a handful of others.  Jay was an awesome host.  Two concrete, non-fuzzy outcomes happened directly from my trip:

    1. I randomly met someone who flips in Chicago at the event. Couple months later one of my local friends told me about a house in Chicago they wanted to unload.  I was able to put those two together.  Textbook "networking".

    2. I attended a talk at the event from the CEO of HomeSuite.  I'll be listing my first B&H unit on their site in October - wouldn't have happened without going to this event.

    So, yeah ... I'd encourage you to go.  It'll be a better experience if you can turn on your outgoing personality and aggressively talk to as many people as you can.

    Hey @J. Martin!

    Is there a schedule up for the event?  I may only be able to attend one of the days so I want to make sure the topics of the day I select are aligned with my goals.  I'm assuming Saturday and Sunday have different speakers each day?

    Thanks!

    @Justin R.,

    Thanks for the specific examples of how the Summit benefited you, and glad you had a good time too! ;)  It's going to be a blast this year also! Thanks for coming up from San Diego :)  I think the furthest away last year was Anchorage, Alaska. But will have a nice group coming out from Chicago, Seattle area, Austin. And of course a bunch of Cali folks. Looking forward to another diverse crowd! I just talked to David Adams, the former CEO of HomeSuite the other day to meet up in Seattle. I still get good 1mo+ guests from them today :)  (And see pic below)

    @Jake Knight, I think there's a bit over a week before pre-sale ticket prices, so cancel whatever else you have planned, and get on it!!! lol

    @Calvin Kwan,
    Right now, the 1-day tickets are good for either day and on sale for early birds! So just buy one now. You can decide which day you want to go as late as the day of the event if you want. (will probably split Sat & Sun tix for new purchases later).

    We should have at least the speakers who are on each day in the next week or two...

    @Omi C.,
    You're not quite a newbie any more!
    What you said is exactly why I like getting this group of people together..
    The openness of everyone about what they're doing.
    Gonna be able to make it out again this year?

    @J. Martin - Hey J, thanks for the reply.  Quick question - The 1 day is $215 and the 2 day is $285 on the registration site.  What does the $245 refer to on this form post?

     $245 was the super early bird pricing for 2-day tickets. About 100 investors bought in at this price. The prices at the door will be about $75-100 more, and go up over time. (to get people off their asses.) The whole event is priced too low relative to similar events (and hasn't made me any real money), but I didn't want to raise prices too quickly to the $400+ level.. (where the organizers are not splitting revenue with speaker sales to cram crap down attendees' throats)

    You should be able to make back tens, hundreds, or thousands of multiples by coming away with an idea or making a connection that gets you 1 tiny deal. More importantly, it's worth your time to make those connections! ;)

    @Johnson H., you're gonna be able to make it out again at least one day, right?

    For anyone interested... @Danny Duran and @Zach Shepard and @Kevin Lochen and I are flying out early to go shark diving! The Farallon Islands are located inside the San Francisco city limits and only 29 miles west of the Golden Gate Bridge, making San Francisco the only major metropolitan city in the world to host a population of white sharks.

    • Day trips departing from San Francisco Bay. (12 hour day)
    • Limited loads 8 to 12 Divers - $800 - $1000 per person depending on group size
    • Up to 4 topside Observers - $450 - $500 per person depending on group size
    • No SCUBA certification required.
    • Cold water, limited visibility,
    • BIG SHARKS
    • Predation events likely (sharks attacking and feeding on seals and sea lions).

    We are getting a group together for Thursday 10/5 before the conference in Oakland. It is a once in a lifetime experience as the sharks only migrate for 8 weeks a year and this year the event is right in the middle of it! If interested PM me asap so we can set it up.

    Friday we will likely do a trip to Napa or something like we did last year - might as well make the best of our business write off!

    @Brie Schmidt - Shark diving?! You are a badass. Haha. They are the very reason I stay out of the Pacific.

    I did see whales the other day so should be very fun!

    Would love to stay afloat of any alcohol / land-activities!

    @Meredith L.,

    Welcome out for your first time!  It's been a blast at the last two, a lot to learn, and even more people to meet!
    We'll be rolling out a networking app to get people even better connected this year too :) Glad you can make it down with @Al Williamson and the Greater Sacramento / Roseville / Davis crew.  (Al, yes, I have learned many more songs on the ukulele, and will play one or two. Not just education and networking. You get a full entertainment extravaganza!! lol

    **** WINE TASTING AND GREAT WHITE SHARK DIVING******
    These are NOT included in the price of your conference ticket, but a fun way to connect the Thursday and Friday before the event. @Brie Schmidt will be spear-heading (get it!?) a great white shark cage dive on Thursday, and a wine trip to Napa/Sonoma Valley for wine tasting on Friday, before our Friday night happy hour. I will get some more details together and send out an email as we get closer, but contact Brie now if you're interested in diving with great whites...

    @Alice K.,

    You seemed like an adventurous person, no?! The wine tasting should be much safer, and made Brie promise nothing broken for this conference. She's got a bad history..

    @Bill Exeter,
    Thanks for coming out again this year! Like @Johnson H., you'll be in the "OG-3" club for coming out to each of the 3 Summits we've had so far (as long as Johnson makes it..). Hope to see some other folks from the Greater San Diego area, Chula Vista, Carlsbad, Oceanside. Bill, I got a table at Bruce Norris' "I Survived Real Estate" event in Sept, and you and Hiba are welcome to join us if you'd like :)

    @Erin A., you were MIA last time! I know you've been busy, and got some property after the first Summit. Can you make it back? Care to share what you did in RE after the first one..?

     Seriously... Crutches/scooter and a broken foot last year in Oakland and tore my ACL in Denver at @Joe Fairless' conference.  I can't be broken for a third

     I'm definitely trying! It's good a lot of it was left on forums, so I could go back and find them..
    Here's a few quotes from yourself over the years!

    "J, thank you again for setting up such an awesome event. It's the best I've been to and am looking forward to the next one. I can write a long list of why I like this event, I tried to summarize it in the Group Reviews page.."

    " This was an awesome event, honestly the best RE networking event I've been to. The whole atmosphere was just great - the "No Guru" promise was definitely over-delivered, everyone was on the same level, didn't matter whether you were totally new or had millions of dollars in deals behind you. The content was great as well. I wish there was more time for networking because I felt like every person in the room had something to add to the group. I can go on and on, but in summary, this was definitely worth driving for from Southern CA. Huge thanks to J. Martin for putting so much time into the organization!!! Looking forward to the next one :) ”

    - Sergey Tkachev

    OG-3 Sergey! You and @Elijah Artman are probably the best fan club a person could ask for!! :)
    And btw, we will be doing more networking this year, break out sessions, and I just signed up for a networking app so attendees can get better connected before and after the event.. :)

     Johnson, looking forward to seeing you there, and thanks for donating to the orphanage :)  We're trying to raise over $10,000 for charity this year with the Summit. And we'll make it with the help of everyone coming out!

    That gives me a great idea ... next year I think I'll scoop up all the early bird tickets and scalp them at the door day of for a 50% return ... would that be speculating on appreciation? ;)
