Aspiring Realtor in North West Indiana

I love houses!  This winter I will be taking realtor classes and ultimately hope to achieve my license by early spring. This will not be a full time venture for me to start with. I currently have a full time blue collar job that just doesn't match my level of ambition.  I am seriously excited about the possibility of getting to know some interesting people here at bigger pockets.  So far I'm really buying into their philosophy.

Good luck with your test! I am moving to Bloomington in a few weeks and living just above valpo in MI for 10 years. My wife is thinking of working on her RE licence in IN, but not sure yet.

That's fantastic Adrien. I'm sure you're a wealth of region specific real estate knowledge.  Mind if I ask how you got stated in the biz?

Thanks Paul. I just might take you up on that.  I really am excited get started in real estate and all the facets of it.  Has the market/region been good to you and your business?

I have made many offers in the area but nothing has stuck just yet. I'm getting very close. I say the area has potential. I can't say it's better or worse than the surrounding areas and it's probably somewhat below South Chicago as far as ROI and cash flow. I chose it for the convenience of location in relation to my work and home. I can say there is a lot of competition here amongst investors so finding a deal will not be as easy as some other nearby areas. If you stick to it and get over rejection quickly then you will be fine.

I've always had an affinity towards REI- growing up, I watched my uncle build a huge portfolio of rentals. I like wholesaling because it's a fun challenge and it's all about networking which is a skill I have.

@Paul Stout we just got 2 properties in south Chicago land. They are both rehabs that could increase your working capital quickly. I'll get you the details.

quick question for you friendly welcoming folks. While yes I do aspire to be a realtor. Is it considered a conflict of interest to be a realtor and a real estate investor?  Are their laws in place to prevent such a thing?
