Hey Everyone,

Just started learning about Real Estate investing and have been creeping around the BP site and listening to some audio books including Brandon Turner's The Book on Rental Property Investing. Looking forward to getting involved in the community here and using this as resource as I move from learning to investing.

Portland is a very competitive market right now so particularly interested in hearing about other people's experiences starting out in hot markets. My husband and I currently own a house in SE Portland and have seen significant appreciation on it, we are now considering our next move; sell our house and buy-up? Build an ADU in our Basement before Portland's waiver on SDCs expires? rent our house and house-hack? Buy a rental property on the outskirts of town where we may be able to find something that is affordable? Other investment area in Oregon?

So much to learn and so much to consider, thankful there's a forum for it all!

Amanda,

Way to take the plunge! There are so many different things you could do with that opportunity I would recommend reading as much as you can and meeting with a bunch of different people to get their two cents. It is amazing how many ideas or possibilities present themselves that you may not have ever thought of that someone would think is second nature because of their experiences.

Since your local I would also recommend coming to the meeting we are trying to put on here in Portland soon. It is a great opportunity to network and find out what works for other people in the area. Follow along here and hopefully we will have a time and place set soon: https://www.biggerpockets.com/forums/521/topics/29...

Hope to see you around!
