Texas Triangle unemployment numbers...

I was curious about the latest unemployment numbers from the big cities that make up the Texas triangle so I looked it up. This is the latest numbers from Texas Workforce Commission for June 2020.

Rank ordered.

1. Austin 7.6

2. San Antonio 8.7

3. Dallas 9.0

4. Ft. Worth 9.1

5. Houston 10.2

I know why Austin is doing relatively well. I am not sure about San Antonio. Is it the big military government presence? I guess that Houston is so tied up with the oil industry that they are taking a hit due to covid 19 and oil prices. Not sure about DFW area. Any guidance? Curious.

I have an opposite experience in Houston.  I have been helping clients find and interview in-house attorney, controller/CFO and escrow officer for a title company.  Got lots of good candidates willing to work for salaries a little lower than what they would have been pre-COVID.  Interviewed bunch of them over the phone and many are qualified and genuinely interested in the jobs.

Right now, I got an ad running  to find somebody (kind of clerical)  to write leases, manage documents, help post bills and post payments or really just take some of the load off my current staff. No real applicants, the only ones I got were marginally literate people who worked in restaurants looking for new work and that would have to be watched and trained move by move. So 10% unemployment?? hmm.. what ever they want to tell you, they will tell you.
