House Hacking in Austin, TX

Hi! I’m currently a house hacker in the Atlanta market, employing a rent by room strategy. There is a high likelihood that I will be moving to Austin (for work) later this year with my girlfriend and I would love to continue house hacking with her, although I do realize there are many differences between the ATL and ATX market, namely price and investor activity.

Is anyone currently Househacking small MFU in Austin, a SFH with separate living space or something of the like? What are some of the growing areas in the path of progress that you're noticing?

@Cameron Cooper I am househacking a duplex in South Austin. I just moved out of a duplex in East Austin that we were househacking and rented it out as a monthly rental.

@Conner Olsen on my team is househacking a duplex in North Austin and he's doing mostly monthly rentals and he's crushing it.

@Devin Dang on my team is doing a single family rent by the room househack on the east side off of 290 and that's going very well.

You can absolutely do either. What we're finding right now is that the market is hot for both and it's easier to find a rent by the room SFH but you can still do a duplex, just be ready to hunt for a bit!
