Access to pre-foreclosures?

If I have access to pre-foreclosures, what is the benefit of having such access? How can you secure a purchase of such property to fix/flip?

You buy the note from the note holder and bid full payoff is the best way to secure the property- of course buying a note is not easy and you don't get to really pick a property - you also have no idea what interior looks like
