Tenants Did Not tell me about Cockroach Problem

Posted

My tenants just moved out. When the new tenants were moving in, they sent me a video of cockroaches in the kitchen sink and other areas.

My new tenants didn't feel comfortable living there so they are staying somewhere else until the problem is fixed. (I had pest control come by asap).

Pest control said fridge and stove may need to be replaced, and I'm guessing I need to pay for the new tenants to live somewhere for maybe a week until the roaches are gone.

Is my previous tenant liable for these costs? Like the fridge/stove/pest control, since they did not tell me about this and it became worse?

I'm not sure how to navigate this situation at all. Would appreciate help.

In my experience, roaches don't infest clean homes so your tenant may be held liable. Why didn't you inspect between tenants?  It may be too late, particularly if you've already refunded the deposit.
