Renting to a traveling nurse

Tatiana Jimenez
Posted

Has anyone rented out to a traveling nurse before? I usually collect the security deposit plus first months rent at signing of the lease but she is saying her company will only pay the deposit now and half the months rent until a couple days before moving in since it’s in the middle of the month. She’s not moving in till a whole month from now.

Traveling nurses usually don't pay their own housing costs. It's paid for by a company hired to hire the traveling nurse. You need to ask the nurse to provide you with the company and speak with them.

You can usually be a little more lenient since the company is paying. I've not heard of anyone getting screwed over by the company.

I will say this: there are a lot of crazy traveling nurses out there. Literally crazy. I used to manage vacation rentals and probably rented to a dozen traveling nurses each year. About half of them appeared to be mentally unstable, very strange, abusing prescription meds, etc. My aunt was a traveling nurse and she was also an odd duck. I think there's a reason why they travel.
