Making your network work for you
How can you make the most of your networking opportunities?
The world is currently upside down and networking is almost 100% in a virtual space. However, that doesn’t mean that you cannot make meaningful connections. We like in an online world of social media that are primed for today. Make sure you have an online presence and that that presence works for you. I don’t care what sites you use, just make sure you’re using a few.
Here are a few sites that may be primed for you to make a connection: LinkedIn, Facebook, MeetUp, and even the NextDoor App. Make sure your profile is set up so people know who you are and what you do. Now start making connections
Bypassing Business Cards: Instead of rushing around and handing out your business cards (on faceless online connections), have fewer discussions and provide memorable information. What makes it memorable? Any information that someone would consider paying for. For example…have a sample deal to talk about. Even if you do not have the property locked up, talk about the house, the numbers, and the potential returns. You might get a buyer or you might get a private money lender.
Asking for Advice: Asking others for advice on how they do a specific deal or if they know of someone looking for a partner. Chat with the right people, who might make an introduction for you, and ask for their advice on how to meet others. This way they have an out. I do this all the time with private money, “Do you happen to know anyone that is looking for better returns on their money. I’m offering 10% right now for private money lending, backed by real estate. Let me know if you know anyone.”
Vetting Events: The last thing anyone wants to do is go to an event (even if it’s virtual and you can join in your sweats) that’s a waste of time. For me I can attend a REI, entrepreneur, professionals meeting every day of the week. If I’m constantly in a meeting then I’m probably not getting things done. You have to make sure that the meetings you do attend are going to get you to your ultimate goals.
Staying in Touch: Networking is not just meeting a new person; it’s staying in touch with all the people from your past. If you spend your time always meeting new people, then you’re not capitalizing on all your opportunities, but man are you busy.
