It’s All in Your Mind

One of the biggest things new real estate investors run up against is their mind.

They hesitate on doing a lot of the tasks that need to be done. And it's because they have this thing that's stopping them. They are not sure what it is. They are doing things that they should not be doing.

There's a lot of fear associated with real estate investing and part of it is the fear of failure. So they're worried that what they do is not going to be the right thing to do and that they're going to end up failing and other people are going to think it's weird and eventually tell them “I told you so” if they fail.

"Fear is about moving forward. It's not about avoiding your fears. It's about embracing your fears and moving forward."

One of the best things you can do to overcome anything that's stopping you or to overcome any of your thoughts or challenges is addressing the things that you fear the most or that you're afraid of the most.

For example, maybe one of the things is you hate cold calling and for your business, you need to cold-call. Now, I don't cold call because I just don't feel it's very effective. But if your job is an inside salesperson and part of your job is a cold calling, you have to figure out how to overcome that fear and you have to just start doing it.

If you do anything repetitively, you are going to overcome that fear.

You also want to make sure that your mindset is right when you're talking to people. Because if when you're talking to people, the sense that fear, it's not going to be very effective,

A lot of people are afraid of failure. They are afraid of success. They are afraid of rejection. They are afraid of what other people are going to think about them. One of the things I've heard the other day, which I thought was great, is “don't worry about what other people think about you because frankly, it's none of your business”.

So, when you're involved in real estate, don't worry about rejection when you're talking to sellers. Yes, you have to get over the negative mindset. Stop thinking, “I can't make this offer. They're going to be insulted”. You just have to figure out what's the right offer. And as long as you can explain something and if it makes sense, then you can talk to that person.

"A big part of overcoming fear or getting past your negative mindset challenges is by being prepared."

If you are prepared and you are executing properly, it gives you a lot of confidence, which helps affect your mindset, which helps you move forward on the things that need to be done.
