Home Repairs Too Much of a Hassle? Listen to This!

As responsible humans, we always try to make the most out of our time and money. In a time where commercial goods are abundant, we’re so quick to replace broken things for new ones. Many people buy new phones instead of having them repaired. Others sell their faulty cars for the latest ones! A few would even “replace” a broken relationship when things aren’t doing so well!

Many see this kind of mindset as a bad thing, and rightly so, as some people could be better off fixing their phones, cars, and relationships. However, at least for those first two things, other people just can’t deal with the hassles of going to a repair shop. Many of us can’t afford to have to go out of our busy schedules and spend our hard-earned money just to have something repaired over and over again. For homes, it’s quite the same thing.

Those of us who’ve had tenants recently evicted might discover that their once beautifully constructed home is now a literal rat’s nest. Some reports say that pets of their other tenants are allowed to “mark” their territories wherever they please, including your carpet! And it doesn’t even have to be at a rental! It could even be the very house you live in.

We can only deal with so many repairs. The common do-it-yourself kinds of jobs aren’t really what we’re talking about here, but those large-scale repairs that take so many resources from us. Here are some of the reasons why we might feel this way.

Extra Time

As mentioned earlier, our busy schedules sometimes don’t allow us to have the freedom to just call someone and fix the house. Because we’re so tired from doing everything else, we would rather spend time with family, keep up with our kids (or friends), or even just get a full eight to ten hours of sleep. For some people, those things are worth more than wealth!

Unknown Cost

The potential expenditures on undergoing repair could get really pricy. If you’ve clicked on this article, it’s highly likely that you’ve already seen the costs for what you’re trying to fix. You might have initially thought that a specific repair is worth a thousand dollars, which can happen, but later realize that it’s a massive rework, like roofs and foundations, that could cost tens of thousands of dollars!

Not only that, if you call in a person to fix the “one” issue, they might call you up ten minutes later, saying that there were seven other issues that you didn’t notice. For example, a leaky pipe could just be a tiny hole that needs to be patched up, but if the leak keeps coming back, it’s possible that you might have to replace your entire plumbing system!

Trust Issues and Doubt

Are the people you’re hiring the right ones for the job? Having the wrong contractors to do renovations and repairs may end up costing you more in the end. For some of us, the mental stress of having to deal with that uncertainty is extremely difficult to bear, especially if you’ve been there more than once.

Additional damage

This is more of a bonus but counts as a valid reason. We could apply this idea to the example earlier. If a leak starts to persist and the people you’ve hired were not capable of finding the root cause of the problem, things could get messy, figuratively, and literally. For one, there might have been more unidentified leaks around the house that are damaging the structural integrity of the building, and two, leaks waste more water (meaning, money) than you think! This is the element that completes the cycle, putting you back to worrying about time, money, and trust all over again.

The Solution

At the moment, you may be thinking that you might have bitten more than you can chew by becoming a landlord or real estate investor. While we would encourage you to continue to learn and grow in your business, we also understand that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. To others, managing a property is a dream come true, because they have income on the side. But for the rest, it might something that continues to take away what’s more important for them. If you’re the latter, then you’re in luck! You can sell the property and get your life back.

Tiny Things To Do

You might come here already prepared to sell your house, but also a little hesitant to pull the trigger because there could be a potential way to bump up the value of the house with little to no effort. Below are some of those things that you can do yourself or shouldn’t cost too much.

  • Patch up leaking pipes
  • Patch up holes on the walls
  • Clean off stains on carpets
  • Clean the bathroom area thoroughly
  • Do general landscaping and repainting
  • Do some HVAC maintenance and check on the electronics (if any)
  • Replace old grout
  • Replace broken windows
  • Replace light bulbs
  • Replace faulty door hinges and doorknobs
  • Replace worn out sealant or caulking

Can You Sell Your House “As Is”?

But what if you don’t want to do all those things listed above? Well, selling the house “as is” can definitely be the right choice for you! Not everyone has the money to spare to make repairs on the home, not to mention those unexpected expenses that might come up. So, why not just turn your property into cash and have the serenity you’ve been longing for?

Of course, this is not only about money. Again, time is an essential currency that should be crucial to each one of us. If you think that investing hours, days, weeks, months, or even years into this home isn’t worth it, perhaps it’s time for things to change.
