TeamGatesRE Blog - Day One

Where do you do your best thinking? For me, clarity tends to come when I am in the car, at my desk or laying in bed at night.

The issue with this I have found is often, I don't have the means to take proper notes in the car. Deep work often eludes me at my desk as there are visual reminders or more mundane tasks to accomplish. At night, when I feel like I've clearly mapped out a plan for my next day, week, year, I still don't seem to find the time to get out of bed and document it at the moment.

It has led me to the conclusion that unless I act on inspiration in the moment, I am simply left with the temporary hit of dopamine that comes with dreaming, yet no closer to my ideal outcome.

My hope in creating this Real Estate Blog is to more usefully capture those little moments of inspiration, continue to grow as an individual and share that knowledge with anyone who is willing to listen.

At the end of the day, I am likely the only one who will ever read these post but that is okay. This blog is for me, not for anyone else.

After years of reading other people's work, listening to audiobooks and learning all I can from mentors, I often wondered what my own voice would truly sound like. This is an opportunity for me to find out. Good or bad, my goal is to find me, my voice and share any knowledge I can.

Real Estate Blog Commitments

  1. I will post a minimum of once weekly in 2025.
  2. I will talk about Wealth, Health and Family with a focus on Real Estate
    1. Wealth - Past Successes and Failures
    2. Health - Mental and Physical (Goals and Reflections)
    3. Family - Living with Intent
  3. I will be vulnerable in an attempt to grow as a person

The financial nut in me sits here thinking about how to measure the success of this Blog from a qualitative standpoint but my goal is to try and define success a bit differently for this project. Bear with me...

To get to 52 posts in 2025, I would need to write 20 minutes each and every day. I would also need to spend 10-20 minutes each day doing research for current Blog Posts and gathering ideas for future topics to cover.

This means creating habits in my life that don't currently exist. Most people try to do this January 1st every year but statistically speaking only 9% of people have a new habit carry through to the next calendar year. What is likely more alarming is that 23% give up by the end of the first week and 43% give up by the end of January.

Okay, back to the point... knowing the likelihood of posting 52 times in 2025 and spending 140 minutes a week, every week, for 52 weeks in a row, is NEVER going to happen.

Then why try? Let's say I post 32 times and only spend 20 minutes writing on average 3 days a week. This may seem like a giant disappointment based on what we've been taught in school.

Posting Grade = 61.5% or "F"

Writing Grade = 42.9% of "F"

For years I saw this as failure but over time have started to reshape my view on growth. Remember the old phrase, "Aim for the stars, if you miss you'll at least land on the moon". I am sure I messed it up but let's look at it this way. Although I FAILED miserably to reach my goal, let's look at what I still managed to accomplish -

  1. Write for a total of 3,120 minutes or FIFTY-TWO hours
  2. Posted 32 Real Estate Blog post (this is my first one ever)

To accomplish this, I must create habits and disciplines that are not a part of my current lifestyle.

Will I strive to only make 32 Real Estate Blog Post or write for 52 hours? Absolutely not, we are "Aiming for the stars, but if we miss, I hope to land on the moon".
