The Seaside Highland Games at the Ventura County Fairgrounds
This weekend, California Scotsmen rejoice! The Seaside Highland Games come to the Ventura County Fairgrounds (10 W Harbor Blvd, Ventura) October 8-10, 2010. Bagpipers will signal the beginning of each day's festivities that will include more pipers, drummer and Scottish/Celtic entertainment galore!
Tonight, from 5:00pm to 10:00pm, the official kickoff begins at the Four Points with the Great Bagpipes of Scotland. Come enjoy great Scottish music, food and entertainment to get ready for a jam-packed schedule of events on Saturday and Sunday. Even though gates don't open until 9am on Saturday and Sunday, some competitions begin earlier. Some of the events happening throughout the weekend include dancing competitions, bagpipe and drum competitions, a Scottish fiddle workshop, whiskey seminars, herding dogs demonstration, live Scottish musical performances, a grand parade and traditional Scottish games. Click here to view the full schedule of events.
A 1-day pass to the games is just $14 for adults (ages 13-61), $12 for military and seniors (ages 62 and over), $3 for kids ages 6-12 and free for kids under 6. If you wish to enjoy both days of Ventura's Seaside Highland Games, you can purchase a 2-day pass for just $22 for adults, $20 for military and seniors and $6 for kids. Only cash is accepted at the box office. However, if you don't bring enough with you, an ATM is available at the Derby Club.
In addition to the fun of the games here in Ventura, there is a Whiskey Tasting available for $25 each at 5:00pm tonight (October 8) in the Four Points Sheraton Hotel's Alexandra Room. And, at 6:30pm, enjoy a Scottish buffet with traditional Scottish music and see traditional Scottish garb on the lovely lads and lassies for just $35 per person. The buffet will be held at the hotel's Grand Ballroom.
If you're looking for a fun way to spend the weekend, why not come to the Seaside Highland Games at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Learn about the Scottish culture, enjoy some good food, listen to great music and have a wonderful time!
