My Top Reasons to Buy a House

Buying a house is a milestone in one's life. It is a vital step and though it might be costly, it pays off later in your life. Many people, however, are torn between choosing to either pay rent throughout most of their lives or to get a loan and buy a home. Personally (after living in Melbourne for many years), I am in favour of having something which is your own and in this article I will outline which, in my opinion, are the main reasons behind that.

Security and Stability

When you rent an apartment your budget might take hits when the rent increases. However, if you have your own home with a landscaped garden, a fixed mortgage rate you know exactly how much money you are spending each month. Therefore buying a property can give you the stability and security you need in order to raise a healthy family. Moreover, you can live in the same neighbourhood for years without having to move from one place to another.

Smart Investment

Even though the real estate market took a real hit during the years of recession, historically purchasing a property has always been a good investment. Moreover, if you are lucky enough to buy a house in good neighbourhood, it will only increase its value in the years to come. Thus, you will have the equity to spend on home improvements, open college funds for your kids or use it for emergencies.

Hassle-Free Home Improvements

One of the best parts in having your own home is that you can improve it in any way you like. If you want to place pink tiles in the bathroom for example, or to have various paintings hanging on the walls - you can! You don't have to ask for your landlord's permission or worry that you might damage the walls of your rented apartment. Moreover, with the right improvements you can increase the value of your house even further.

A Beautiful Garden

Well, call me silly, but for me this is a great advantage - not only because of the added curb appeal. Yes, in some cases even if you rent an apartment, you still might have access to a shared backyard - but it's not the same. Imagine having a hammock where you can relax on a Sunday afternoon, or a dedicated BBQ spot where you can gather together with all friends and family members. Moreover, you can grow your favourite flowers or even vegetables. Sounds great, doesn't it? However, if you don't have a green thumb and don't know much about landscape design, you could ask your new neighbours and find inexpensive landscaping help in Melbourne quite easily, as there are many local professionals that compete for your attention.

Finally, when you become a home owner you will have a greater saying on what's happening in your neighbourhood, of course, in case there is some sort of a community established around your place.
