Exterior Spring Cleaning Tips to Add Value to Your Home: Part 2

Normal 1554148871 Screen Shot 2019 03 25 At 10We talked in a recent post about a few spring cleaning tips you could use to add value to your rental properties. A quick recap of Part I: Painting, pressure washing, landscaping, and caulking can add significant value to your home.

Here are a few more spring cleaning ideas you can use for your rental properties. They are a bit more involved than our last set. Yes, that means they're probably going to be more expensive to deal with. But you have to spend money to...well, you know how it goes. So read these tips, apply them, and watch the value of your rentals increase.

Raze the Roof

Do you have old or worn-out shingles? If the top of your house look like it's been to Oz and back, it's time to get a little work done. This tip is a biggie because it's about style and substance. Roof damage can be more than just an eyesore; when the integrity of your roof is compromised, it can lead to serious problems. Ask around and get some expert advice on whether your best bet is to have it repaired or replaced.

Gutter Check

While you're getting those shingles looked at, you're going to want to take a good look at your gutters, too. Are they worn, cracked, or otherwise damaged? Just like the roof itself, bad gutters hurt the aesthetic value of your home and its structural integrity. And if there's nothing wrong with the gutters themselves? At the very least, clean them out!

Eye Your Siding

We talked about paint last time, so it makes sense to mention siding this go-round. If yours is damaged or old, out-of-date, or downright ug--um, "aesthetically displeasing," something has to be done. Unattractive siding can severely damage the curb appeal of your property, while good-looking siding can make your property "pop."

Have you applied any of these spring cleaning tips to any of your properties? What worked and what didn't? Memphis Invest wants to know!
