Could a new airport design in KC increase economic development?

There has been talk of changing the Kansas City International Airport for a while. However, movement and plans have recently been developed and announced. Government officials are hoping to create a single-terminal airport. The current design is a three terminal airport. Change from the three terminal to a single-terminal airport would attract more companies to the Kansas City, Missouri market and as a result increase economic development.

Government officials are hoping the public will approve the change in November. The officials are somewhat nervous about the vote because many travelers like the current three terminal set up due to multiple security gates and short wait times. However, officials are hoping the new benefits will persuade voters. The new design would allow for more restaurants and shops past the security check points and create more direct flights for both national and international destinations which is one of the main reasons for the change.

Ora Reynolds, president and chief executive officer of Kansas City real estate develop company (Hunt Midwest) said, "A new single terminal approach to the Kansas City International Airport will be a key driver for economic development in the region. Corporate decision-makers choose their real estate location based on logistics and the ease of getting everyone to and from their corporate headquarters and other key strategic locations. The convenience of direct flights to more destinations will result in more companies locating their central or regional distribution facilities in Kansas City."
