Why your shirt maybe costing you deals

How to Dress for success for real estate note investing

Dressing for success is very important for the success of your business. You must be taken seriously and show that you are a professional is in the way you dress. In this short article, I am going to share five ways to stand out from the crowd and raise the money you need to invest in more non performing notes.

  • Make sure your shirt and pants are fitted. Nowadays, the fit of the clothes you wear are more important than the brand of the clothing. When shopping for your shirts and pants, you want to make sure they fit will. But you don’t want them to fit too tight. I’ve seen guys who thought they looked good with skin tight shirts on to impress the investor in the past, and this just didn't work. You want to look like professional ready to do business. The clothing you wear will establish a type of credibility and trust with the investor. Of course you need to backup your clothing by the words you speak too. If you don't know what you are talking about, your clothes won't get you anywhere either.
  • No Stains. I, like many others, drink coffee, however, you never want to go to a meeting with an investor with a stain on your shirt or pants! I’ve spilt on myself before, and still choose to go meet with an investor at his office, and he gave me the stare down. The entire meeting was awkward and I definitely learned my lesson because he treated me as an armature. I’m sharing this story with you because I don't want you to experience this learning curve. The best thing to drink in your car is water, it won't stain or give you coffee breath.
  • Keep colors in mind. Keeping a check on your colors will greatly improve your odds of successfully raising money for your notes. Avoid aggressive colors like red, this will subconsciously put up flags in the investors head. Wear calming and confident colors such as navy blue, green or purple for best results. Do some research on what colors give a subconscious message, it's quite interesting.
  • Classic look. I encourage my students to wear a classic look rather than an up to date trendy look. Trends come and go. Classic looks professional no matter the time and gives the investor a sense of competence. You seem steady and relative with the classic look.
  • Accessories can help. I like to wear a watch, a nice watch, when meeting with investors. You don't need to spend a lot on it. Just make sure it's of good and solid quality. For some reason, a nice watch is a status symbol for guys. I encourage you to watch what you wear on your wrists and fingers. You don’t want to look flashy by sporting a bunch of nice rings if you haven't had no deals to talk through them with. You also don't want to look like you haven't worked though any deals yet either. Its best to keep that happy medium with accessories.

Thanks for tuning in and reading this article!

Cheers,
