Where to post/advertise for apartment rental

Question

Greetings everyone,

I have a two family house in upstate NY and after renovation I decided to put out the two apartments for rent. I posted on craigslist and I got very low or minimal request but a friend suggested that I post on Zillow. With Zillow I did get much better reply and request for view but I wanted to pick your brains on what to do to get better hits. Any suggestions to make my posts more appealing or better ways to advertise is greatly appreciated. Please share your thoughts.

Craigslist is  cesspool of scams.

If you use property management software like TenantCloud (free to Landlord) it will market your rentals to a bunch of web sites with the click of a button.

hotpads.com has a lot of rentals and will cross post on zillow and trulia for you.  Since you are not local you could also consider hiring an agent to do your showings, open houses, word of mouth.

@Ahmed Al-Absi honestly, Zillow is probably the best bet, but you can also try realtor.com, apartments.com, hotpads, Facebook Marketplace and Trulia. You could try finding local Facebook for Rent groups as well.

Most successful with apartments.com there have been some mergers this year but that one still remains free for the small time do it yourself landlords.

Not sure if you're on Facebook, but their Marketplace always has a lot of traffic and I see lots of replies to listings on there. This is the property in Hudson, right? Hudson is pretty hot these days, so it's possible to just put up a sign on the property and get some interest that way. If I can be of any help, feel free to message me.

@Ahmed Al-Absi I’ve used Zillow in the past and would recommend it. I’ve also had good success with Facebook Marketplace. I would recommend that you search for local Facebook groups, example: “(insert your location) Properties for rent” and join a few of those groups. When you create your Facebook marketplace post, it will automatically ask you if you want to share it out to those groups. That way you hit multiple pools of potential leads across Facebook.  Leads will then contact you through messenger.

I use Zillow rental manager which also connects with Trulia and Hot Pads.  I find using this method usually gets a tenant within 2 weeks provided it’s not December or January.  I just posted a house for rent and two weeks I had a tenant.  For apartments I use apartments.com.  I do not market on Craigslist, I find the quality of applicants off that website is very low.
