Do I invite the tenants/neighbors to the party?

Hello All,

I am currently house hacking a triplex. Do I invite the tenants/neighbors to my Greek Easter party this Sunday?

Parties/drinking with tenants really blurs the lines of the tenant/landlord relationship. When this happens, rent starts getting paid late, and landlords start relaxing parts of their leases (like 1 car per unit in the driveway, no pets (no pets over 30 lbs), or no RVs/boats on the property, etc.). It is a nice gesture however, it will most likely not end well.

It is always best to keep a good tenant-landlord relationship going. Getting to close will cause problems. Even when house hacking with roommates getting too close can cause problems. I always try to just be nice and say hi when I see neighbors but not chat too much.

It can be difficult when they are the ones wanting to get closer to you and you have to block them off.

@Apostolos Karnavas are you the PM as well, and they know you are the owner? If so no. If you are another tenant paying rent in their eyes go for it. Default is always no, if they ask why they didn't get an invite just be professional and say it was a religious party, and you don't mix business and pleasure.
