worth getting money out of appliances?

Currently, when I need to replace an appliance, there's a local place that will set us up with a "gone over" used appliance with a 6month warrantee and dispose of the old one for $10. I've never been one to turn in scrap metal or spend time getting creative. I'd rather pay $10 to get rid of something than spend two hours and maybe sell it or scrap it for $30. That being said, am I missing something? Is there a BETTER way to maybe "harvest" a few bucks from a refrigerator or stove rather than just let the appliance company whisk it away?? Thanks!
