@Rob Drum  I think part of this comes from those coming from the w2 world and for whatever reason they hate their job  hate their life and think buying rental property will be nirvana  LOL.I never quite got the hey I am going into landlording so I can be retired and never worry again.. granted its a business and you create income by RISKING a ton.. and then counting on others to pay you and not destroy your assets.. some areas are simply easier than others to achieve this..

The lottery is a voluntary tax on people who never took a Statistics 101 course.Ones I know who play it regularly are the same people who go on about how they're always broke.Believe it was called racketeering, or something like that, before the state legalized such activity.The local newscasts are forever drum-beating it.

I'm going to suggest that because there are so many different ways to invest, along with so many different motivations/expectations of the individual players, that the diversity clouds people's mind away from what it is that makes it possible to invest in real estate in the first place, for all investors...drum roll...Property rights.

I will say mine paid.. but our market at that time in the Bay area was quite a bit better than the PNW.. many don't realize how bad it was mid 80s seattle Portland.. if Boeing got a cold the economy tanked.. timber was in the dull  drums all pre tech..
