You will want to keep the whole transaction arms-length and documented; that shouldn't be a problem.It's all about how you demonstrate the intent of holding onto the property for productive use, and not just that you just wanted to avoid tax liability.

I think it is prudent to save up that money with the $20K and let it grow if you can to save for any potential 6 months of expenses.One thing I may recommend is to consider a Holding LLC for asset protection and anonymity to sequester your savings into.
