@Jonathan Beaumont, I think Denise gave some very sage advice that would (ideally) be much simpler and less disruptive to the resident.

Are we better off to be patient and just start with our personal residence and start real estate investing after we've secured our home?

And then once you're done with the first one and the home is stabilized with residents and income, you could use some of that income to make your interest payments on the second home project.Looks like a fascinating project.
