They probably have minimums or if it’s a small job you will more than likely get prices all over the map.

Common in most places, side by side with a common wall, each owns the land underneath......referred to as townhouses, 1/2 duplexes, row houses, etc. depending on location.  

My attorney tells me this is a very common practice to extract a higher settlement.

If you are really new and don’t have anyone you know then go to the city and ask them anything and everything you can...planning, zoning, building departments, fire, development, Enviromental, concurrency  ect. ect. that is there job and why we pay taxes.

However, did you investigate if this is common in the area? 

We need to make a decision rather soon as we are moving to another state for a new job in the next 6 weeks.  

@Dan Oxman you are not the only person to initially think cash could be invested and give rise to tax benefits, it is a common misconception.I have confirmed this with OZ leaders in our firm as well as a few OZ syndicators and the OZ lead at a large Big 4 firm.
