How can I find foreclosed property before it goes on the MLS?

I'm trying to find out if anyone has a good service or search capabilities that allows people to find bank owned/foreclosure properties before they come on the MLS. There are paid services all over the internet, but are any good and worth the money?

I like to keep an eye on web sites like:

www.homepath.com

www.hubzu.com

www.hudsonandmarshall.com

www.xome.com

Sometimes I see homes on websites for local banks & credit unions too.

My understanding is that there is really nothing you can do until the house hits an auction or is listed on the MLS by an agent. I tried reaching out to a bank on a house that didn't sell at an auction and no one could help me. Ended up seeing it on the market and it sold in a day or so.
