Are paid meetups worth it?

I understand the value of networking of course, and meetups, and there are a few that I've found informal (we meet at starbucks every monday afternoon) ... but I'm curious about these membership associations. 

What are your thoughts on the value of paying to meet with people? Have you been involved? Does it help expand you education and network? Worth the money?

Depends how much money, what they offer and the quality of the meetings

I would ask to go one time for free and make your decision from there
