Explosive Growth! What does bamboo have to do with real estate!?

Normal 1554412748 Arashiyama Bamboo Grove Environment 2070025

Do you know how long it takes bamboo to grow?

You may have heard the analogy before, but we just got back from the Think Multifamily event in Dallas where this analogy really struck a chord.

From the time bamboo starts its life as a seed, it spends the first several years putting everything it has into growing its roots. On the surface, it looks like nothing is happening at all, and then suddenly, after years building the foundation, the bamboo shoot bursts from the ground and grows at an unbelievable rate (we're talking inches an hour, which is crazy by plant standards)

When people learn that we buy and sell hundreds of houses, and buy apartment buildings for a living, we often hear things like "Wow! How did you grow so fast!" But people are seeing the surface, without realizing how much time and effort went into building the foundation.

  • We spent years in school to get a good job.
  • We spent years to pay off our debt, and save money to invest.
  • We spent years to find our opportunity, and build a business.
  • We spent years to find our peers and mentors.
  • We spent years to overcome our weakness, and become better leaders.
  • We spent years to hire and train our team.
  • We spent years to improve our systems, our processes, and ourselves.

Very few people saw any of this, and it took years of hard work with very little to show for it.

We still work hard, but now, on the surface, you can start to see our growth.

2017:

50 Properties bought and sold.

Ownership in zero apartment units.

2018:

57 Properties bought and sold, for nearly double the profit of the year before.
Ownership in 292 apartment units.

2019 Q1:

Roughly 35 properties bought and sold.
Ownership in 504 apartment units.

Our ten year vision is to build our active business to point where it can sustain $500,000 in charitable contributions each year, and for our apartment portfolio to be able to sustain another $500,000 in charitable contributions each year.We will continue to work hard to improve the lives of everyone we interact with.

As we push towards that lofty goal, we provide hundreds of homes to new families, pump millions of dollars into our local economy, provide livelihoods for our team and their families, and help our friends and family build wealth for their future.

Work hard. Grow. And give.

  1. That's a Great analogy! People only See the result of someone's Big success but often overlook the year long process it took to get there. Keep us posted!
