Are You Focusing on the Habits You DON'T Have?

We often get hung up on improving our bad habits. Instead, start looking at the habits you don’t have.

Most people think of habits in terms of two categories: good and bad.

And while it’s true that there are good and bad habits, there’s a way to simplify it even further. If you want to be successful and move forward in your life, you have to realize that there are really only two types of habits…

There are habits that we do have and habits that we don’t have.

We subconsciously know about the habits we do have… We know that we have bad habits we’d like to change, and we know that we have good habits which help us move forward. Those are habits that we have.

But most of us aren’t thinking about the habits we don’t have. And this is important, because those are the ones that have the biggest effect on our lives. Those are the ones that are weighing us down and preventing us from moving forward in our lives and our careers.

Not sure what I’m getting at? Let’s look at a few examples.

If you don’t do ____, you’re going to ____.

Take a second to think about the habits you don’t have.

For example, if you don’t manage your money well, that means you don’t have the habit of managing your money well. And when you don’t manage your money well, you’re going to be broke. So if you want to be wealthy, you need to get in the habit of managing your money well.

If you don’t have the habit of studying, you’re going to stagnate.

If you don’t have the habit of exercising, you’re going to be unhealthy.

When you put it into terms like this...everything becomes very simple. As mentioned in the beginning, we have habits that are built into us subconsciously. In some cases, we’re in the habit of not doing things. These are the most dangerous habits because you don’t even realize you’re not doing them!

But now that you’ve seen this, take a step back and look at what habits you don’t have. Where are you stagnating? Are there habits you should have that you don’t have? What would be the results of implementing that habit?

And here’s the scary part…

Once you understand this, there are no more excuses. It’s all on you now. If you don’t continue to progress, it means you’re not addressing the habits you don’t have. Ultimately, it’s your fault and no one else's.

The question is... Will you let this scare you, or will you let it motivate you?
