How Important Is an Apartment Earthquake Ratings?

Why is an apartment’s earthquake rating that important? How can it affect the total value of a particular apartment?

If you’re from Auckland, New Zealand then you might have noticed that most apartment buildings have earthquake rating. You may have seen it on papers and it’s mostly an important factor especially when determining the value of an apartment.

Most apartment sellers are wary about their earthquake ratings since it will affect the price of the property they want to sell. As a matter of fact, some buildings around CBD are already on the 33 per cent threshold, which means that they need to be strengthened. If you’re a seller and the apartment you want to sell is located in an old building, chances are that you will need to find a way to raise your earthquake rating before listing it on the property market.

I have an in-depth guide on how you can raise your earthquake rating. My new podcast will discuss the importance of an apartment earthquake rating and the steps you need to take to raise it.
