There are many things than can cause real estate investors to stand out from the rest of the pack. Real estate investment is a very social business. It just is. Because of that, the way real estate investors interact with other professionals is key to success — whether it’s landlords, real estate agents, buyers, sellers or everyone in between.

One of the most important things to learn in real estate investment is the art of following through and following up.

If you say you’re going to do something, do it. If you make a connection or find a lead? Follow up. It’s so easy for real estate investors to “get busy” and conveniently forget to return that phone call or respond to that e-mail. If you’re not following up on communications, you could be hurting your business.

4 Reasons Real Estate Investors Should Follow Up

1. You may make lasting connections.

You never know how the simple act of checking in on someone could lead to a great networking connection. Talk to people. Engage them. When you follow up with people and remember things about them, it can make for a valuable, lasting connection, professionally and personally. Good connections are vital when you’re in a pinch or on the hunt for new leads!

2. You’ll display quality of character.

In this day and age, people don’t seem to see the necessity of follow through. As the old adage goes — you’re only as good as your word. When you do what you say you’re going to do in real estate investment, whether it’s taking the initiative and picking up the phone, calling someone back, making confirmations or taking the time to ensure that someone else isn’t left hanging, you display a quality of character that people will appreciate — and want to work with.

3. You’ll stick out in their minds.

Do you want to stand out as a real estate investor? Follow up. Did a seller say maybe? Or no? Check back in with them after some time has passed. You need to keep and generate new leads — and following up with other professionals and sellers is a way to do it. When you demonstrate more than a passing interest, you’ll stick out to them. People appreciate initiative.

4. You’ll get things done.

There’s no worse feeling than feeling behind. When you answer messages and phone calls, they can’t pile up. You don’t need to feel a flurry of being overwhelmed by all of the people you need to talk to. Simply put, follow through in real estate investment prevents an uneasy limbo of uncertainty. Take those calls. Sort things out. You’ll feel much, much better.
