Marketing is the Fuel That Drives Your Self-Storage Facility's Success

As a society, we like to communicate electronically. We text, we go online and use Facebook or scroll through Instagram or snapchat or any number of other websites. In other words, if you want people to know that your self-storage facility exists, you need to be on social media too. You don’t want to target everyone who has a social media account, you want to target the people who are interested in self-storage.

The great thing about social media, especially Facebook is that they know their users. They know who is interested in self-storage and they know who to target when you want to run an ad directed to those people. When you place your advertisements on Facebook, they will ask you a few questions about who you want to see your ad. Once they know what you are advertising, they will be able to get your ad in front of the right people.

Google can also target consumers. They know who is doing searches for self-storage facilities. You want to make sure that your property pulls up on their list when someone searches for self-storage. You also want to make sure that you are on the never-ending list of ads that are scrolling across the edge of the screen when someone is searching for self-storage. Google knows who is talking about self-storage, who is searching for self-storage, and they can get you in front of those people.

To successfully advertise on social media, you need to have a website. When you are creating your website, you want to make it very user friendly. You want your potential renters to be able to immediately see what units you have available and what the prices are on those units. Start by advertising your least expensive units to get them in the door and then see if your manager can upsell them.

Try to find a way to track your advertising so that you know what is working. No matter what kind of advertising you decide to start with, make sure that you advertise. Advertising is the gas that fuels your self-storage business. If you don’t have gas in your tank, you’re not going to get very far. As always, happy investing.
