Community Awareness is a Great Way to Build Brand Awareness!

When you are just starting out, it is very important to build community awareness. If the community doesn’t know that you are there, they can’t rent from you. By supporting the community, they will know that you are open and ready for business so they will be more likely to rent from you. So how do you do that?

You should start by identifying who your community is. Always take a minute and identify who you want to target. Where do they live? What are their needs? What do they like to do? Will they be on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or a different type of social media. How can you get them to store with you?

All different types of demographics store. Some people need to store their off-season decorations. Other people need to store because they don’t have space. Some people need to store because they are in a state of transition. Others need storage because they are about to be deployed. You need to know how to market to each of these groups.

Every self-storage facility is going to have a different market, they key is to make sure that you build awareness in yours. Find out what the culture is within 3 to 5 miles of your facility. If they are conservative, make sure that your ads are conservative.

One way to build community awareness or to get involved in the community is to support a local little league soccer team or baseball team. You cannot give them free storage; you have to have a contract so that you are covered but you can do it for $1 and free marketing. They can put your name on their uniforms or on their mailers or on their announcements. This way the team’s families’ will know about you and so will other teams and those who are watching the games.

As you build brand awareness, you will find that you get more renters at your self-storage facility. This will result in referrals from those renters. As always, happy investing.
