First mortgages survive HOA foreclosure subject to a few months of super-priority assessments.After the analysis of lien priority (a full title report and attorney/title examiner would be necessary to do this), if it turns out this was a bad move it would likely be time to discuss intentionally defaulting/other options with a local attorney.
