And then you need to stick to your guns and maintain the integrity of your roles if they try to take advantage of the situation... or you try to (or it’s perceived that you try to) take advantage of the situation.

It would be great to hear some more honest first-hand experiences from folks out there actually doing it, and whether or not they are equally enthusiastic about it/still recommend/would go back and do it again after a few years of tracking performance.
