The country doesn't have an army.Costa Rica found a gold mine many, many years ago in promoting nature and the environment and adapted the slogan "Pura Vida" as a way of life (Pure life)Having said all that, as the result of the international economic slowdown, Costa Rica start to feel the pinch as well.

I also want to thank you as I found a vegetarian/vegan place (La Vida Veggie) right next door that I'm definitely going to have to try. :-)
