We had a 1929 house in MI that had wires in the attic on insulators that at the time (late 1980's) I assumed was some type of radio antenna system but in hindsight was probably K&T wiring remnants.One advantage of rewiring a house is that you can upgrade the whole system to grounded plugs and a load center with divided neutrals and grounds as required by code.Metal theft was very common several years ago and lots of houses got all the wiring stripped out.
