So I call the city to see what the status is because I have a gut feeling I should call them instead of the contractors first….to my surprise permits have not been submitted.

No matter, where, when or how a STR is made, it should always be the place everyone wants to call home after traveling 1000 miles which is never too far if you really enjoy the ambiance, amenities, unwarranted surprises and mindful upgrades your STR holds.  

Just make sure everyone’s clear on how it works so there are no surprises come tax time.Communicate everything, write it down, and treat it like a business from the start.
