Here in Kansas City it's actually been really dry (in spite of the winter snows) so a lot of the problems are from the soil drying out and shrinking from the foundation, removing the support from the sides and bottom.

Other downsides I see to tile is that its expensive to remove (but should last), and will crack if there is settling on a foundation. 

It would be hard to accomplish today, but its legal and needn't be taken off, other than for its obvious issues.

We tried to give to a flower farm, but, we were told that no one can bring in or remove any dirt.

I assume I will need to have a professional come in to do the removal due to liability risks if I rent it out.
