I find that level of suggested diversification very interesting and agree that if you could achieve that kind of portfolio, you will be sitting very pretty from a financial health perspective.

One of the benefits (or actually, consequences) of being a bit older (46) is I don't have a long horizon left to build up a retirement portfolio, so I'm inclined to start pretty hard (but with, I believe, manageable risk levels) plus I am in decent financial health overall from regular savings and traditional investing from my day job earnings over a long time period.

I have a significant amount of $$ in their gnma fund VFIJX and also their reit  VGSLX for my r/e exposure and you will get a nice mix of all of the r/e categories (office, hotels, shopping centers, health medical centers, etc).
