I agree that you do need to find an attorney now that you trust and you can grow with - the costs should not be astronomical - especially if its just you as a the sole member in the LLC

Not sure how San Diego is but by me:1) In my area Small Claims is capped at 3K for suburbs and 5K for the City.2) In my area a business (llc) is not allowed to represent themselves in Small claims court, they have to hire a lawyer (More expensive)3) You are required to file claim where the person lives or owns a business.
