I like the look of the exposed brick next to the stairs, but one thing that comes to mind is that it'd be hard to hang pictures on, without Tapcons or similar.

One thing to keep in mind is that delinquent taxes have significant penalties attached, so if you believe you will end up with the deed, it's generally best to pay them now rather than later to avoid additional accumulation of penalties.

So with that in mind I would suggest that your mom focus on earning/saving enough cash for emergencies then then start looking at investments.

I have excerpted a "piece of information" that I believe has relevance...keep an open mind I am simply the messenger. "....this “Internet Royalties” stock is actually a Real Estate Investment Trust (abbreviated REIT), and it will probably trade like a REIT during times of interest rate upheaval, so we may see better buying opportunities as the Fed shakes the tree for investors in REITs and other income-focused investments.
