What are some things you wish you would've know before you started investing that could've saved you from a failure?

If you simply say, I am going to not touch my account until it has $20k in it, that should go a long way, and after that you can reinvest or spend or whatever excess as you wish.

There are a few aspects you have to weigh, the first being what are your overall goals.For me, looking back I wished I had bought a 4 family instead of a single family as my primary. 

But for how much longer, I wish I knew. 

Goal: Buy a class A or B multifamily for my family and my extended family while trying to reduce housing costs and build equity in NJ/NY area using a VA loan.Requirements / Wish List1. 2-3 bed room unit for my own family2. 1-2 unit for my extended familiy3. an extra unit for rental income4.

I wish to attend local events to meet more people in this field, but that obvious can't happen now.

We can sit here and wish the government through HUD did more.

I intend to update it to rent standards (all cosmetic repairs I intend to do myself-wish me luck) and live in one bedroom while renting out the other two.
