I really liked the house, and didn't think of it as an investment too much, I was thinking of just calling this place home.

Renters generally want as much house as possible for as little as possible, in the right location. 

Does anyone have any experience buying/managing Section 8 housing in Colorado Springs?

I came across a house that is selling right next to my current home which would be off the market deal.  

He's got a boat and a nice house but it's likely all protected under some corporate structure. 

Also another thing to consider are most municipalities will significantly increase your taxes if you pop the top of the house.

Maybe learn about buying a duplex and living in one half and renting the other half out called a house hack.

Maybe your situation is different and if you don’t feel comfortable in the neighborhood then this may be a moot point anyway.As for FHA, my understanding is that you must intend to live in the house for a year  it sounds like you did intend to, but due to unexpected circumstances- lead exposure and unexpected unsafe neighborhood- you have to move.

The inspection will also vary depending on whether there are kids in the house or not - they don't care about a couple small flaking paint spots if there are not children.
