It's not always smart to DIY everything. 20 years ago I made the biggest mistake of my professional career.

There are DIY kits and prefab options that fit most units.

I also recommend the heavy duty all zinus metal bedframe with a zinus mattress and attach a headboard using the zinus headboard kit. 

For clear, step‑by‑step rehab sequencing, I’d study these in this order: YouTube: Matt Risinger for building science and order of operations, Home RenoVision DIY for beginner‑friendly checklists, and Hammer & Hand for best‑practice details; then pair with J Scott’s The Book on Estimating Rehab.

The estimate I got from DIY Cost Seg was the highest.
