Timing is everything

Posted

Hi,

I apologize if I have placed this discussion in the wrong forum, so please feel free to guide me to a more suitable one if so. I was wondering if someone can offer some advice, insight, thoughts on when they felt it was the right time to "sell their share" of a co- owned property with someone. Not to get into too much detail, but I co own a property( main residence) with my husband in Marin county CA. As with most properties it has and probably will go up in value over time.

As with most properties and CA in general there is also a high cost of upkeep, property taxes etc. I am wondering if selling off my share and putting money into rental property somewhere else such as the south or midwest may be a better investment. I would be able to live in the home at a low cost if I sold, and could therefore invest money elsewhere.

Any suggestions appreciated.
